Rajshree Upadhyaya | Business Remedies | By taking on the mission of making affordable air purification available to every household, Ravi Kaushik and Abhimanyu Kumar built the Airth startup and established their position. In a country where air pollution has become a part of daily life, Airth emerged as a solution to a deeply personal and significant problem. In 2020, Ravi Kaushik and Abhimanyu Kumar founded this New Delhi-based startup with the idea that access to clean air should not depend on expensive machines. Kaushik’s background in aerosol science and his personal experience of seeing his mother struggle with asthma played an important role in shaping this idea. Instead of creating another premium product for a niche audience, the founders focused on building a solution that could easily fit into everyday Indian households.
From the beginning, what made Airth different was its unique approach to air purification. Instead of selling bulky standalone purifiers, the company developed technology that could convert existing air conditioners into air purification systems. Their main products, such as AC air purifier attachments, split AC filtration systems, window AC purification units, and HEPA-based filters, were designed to work with appliances that people already owned. This not only reduced costs but also ensured continuous access to clean air without the need for separate devices.
The simplicity of this idea became the foundation of the brand’s growing appeal. However, building a hardware-focused startup in a price-sensitive market had its own challenges. The team had to invest heavily in research and development to ensure that their filters could effectively capture pollutants like PM2.5, allergens, bacteria, and viruses. With support from scientific research and validation from institutions like IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, and IISc Bangalore, Airth worked to balance performance and affordability. At the same time, educating consumers about this new category of air purification required dedication, as converting an AC into a purifier was still a new concept for many people.
The Brand Gained Greater Recognition on Online Platforms
A turning point for Airth came when the founders appeared on Shark Tank India Season 4. They asked for Rs. 60 lakh in exchange for 1 percent equity, valuing the company at Rs. 60 crore. Their pitch was well received by the investors due to its practicality and scalability. After discussions, they secured a deal of Rs. 96 lakh for 3.7 percent equity from Aman Gupta and Vineeta Singh. Apart from funding, this partnership provided credibility, mentorship, and access to a larger market, which proved very important for a young consumer-focused brand. After the show, Airth saw a significant increase in visibility and demand. The brand gained more recognition on online platforms, and interest grew among both general consumers and businesses. The founders continued expanding their product ecosystem by introducing solutions such as AQI monitors, biodegradable filters, and advanced purification systems for homes and offices. Their larger vision revolves around integrating clean air solutions into everyday environments without disrupting existing lifestyles.
Expanding Presence in the Indoor Air Quality Segment
So far, Airth remains an active and operational company, continuously expanding its presence in India’s indoor air quality segment. With its headquarters in New Delhi, the startup is exploring new use cases, including commercial spaces and other enclosed environments, while continuing to expand its distribution network. In a market filled with expensive options, Airth’s strategy of improving existing appliances has helped it build a unique identity. The journey of Airth is not just about innovation, but also about rethinking how solutions are delivered to people. By focusing on accessibility and practicality, the founders have transformed a silent health crisis into an opportunity for positive change, positioning their brand at the intersection of necessity, technology, and everyday life.
