Rajshree Upadhyaya | Business Remedies | Gudworld’s journey begins with a deep-rooted family legacy in jaggery production, shaped over more than four decades. Founded by cousins Preeti Prabhakar Shinde and Sayali Babasahib Shinde, the brand emerged from Aurangabad with a vision to modernize one of India’s most traditional sweeteners. Growing up in families closely connected to sugarcane farming and jaggery manufacturing, both founders had firsthand exposure to the industry’s strengths as well as its limitations. They noticed that while jaggery was widely produced and known to be healthier than refined sugar, its usage remained limited, especially in urban households, largely due to inconvenience and lack of standardization.

This insight led to the foundation of Gudworld around 2020, with the brand officially scaling its presence in 2021 as a direct-to-consumer venture. The idea was not to reinvent jaggery but to reimagine how it could fit into modern lifestyles. The founders focused on solving the biggest pain point-usability-by introducing bite-sized jaggery cubes in 5-10 gram portions, eliminating the need to break hard blocks. This simple yet effective innovation made jaggery portable, measurable, and easy to consume daily.

Building on this, Gudworld expanded its offerings with flavoured jaggery variants such as ginger, turmeric, coffee, cocoa, and cardamom, turning a traditional ingredient into a functional and even indulgent snack. The brand also introduced jaggery powder and other convenient formats, catering to both households and commercial users like cafes and restaurants. By doing so, Gudworld positioned itself as a modern health-focused brand promoting organic jaggery as a substitute for refined sugar.

A key strength of the company lies in its vertically integrated operations. From sourcing sugarcane through family farms to processing and packaging in their own facility, the founders ensured consistency, purity, and quality control. This approach helped address one of the biggest concerns in the jaggery market-adulteration-while also building trust among consumers who were becoming increasingly health-conscious.
Gudworld gained national attention with its appearance on Shark Tank India Season 4. The founders entered the show seeking Rs. 50 lakh for 2% equity, valuing the company at Rs. 25 crore. While the valuation sparked discussion, their clarity of vision and understanding of the market impressed the investors. After negotiations, they secured a deal from Aman Gupta, who invested Rs. 50 lakh for 5% equity, providing not just funding but also strategic guidance to scale the brand further.

In terms of financial performance, Gudworld has shown early but steady growth in a category that has traditionally been unorganized. The company reported revenue of around Rs. 1.48 crore in FY23-24, with increasing monthly sales and expanding distribution across retail outlets and online platforms. The brand has also sold millions of units, indicating growing consumer acceptance of jaggery in its new, convenient formats.

More than just numbers, Gudworld reflects a broader shift in how Indian consumers are rediscovering traditional foods through modern packaging and branding. By focusing on convenience, hygiene, and flavor innovation, the founders have successfully repositioned jaggery from a rural commodity into an urban lifestyle product. Their mission goes beyond selling sweeteners, aiming instead to gradually replace refined sugar with healthier, natural alternatives in everyday consumption.

As of now, Gudworld is operational and actively expanding its footprint across India. With a strong foundation built on legacy expertise and a clear understanding of evolving consumer preferences, the brand continues to innovate and scale, carving a distinct space in the modern FMCG landscape while staying true to its traditional roots.
