Business Remedies | Rajshree Upadhyaya | July 15,2025 |  With relentless dedication and hard work, Chhavi Singh established Nestroots, bringing innovation to the home décor space and establishing her brand identity across India. When she founded Nestroots in 2016, it wasn’t just an ordinary business venture-it was a natural evolution of her personal journey and professional instincts. With over a decade of experience in sales, operations, and training with leading firms like Arvind, and while setting up her own home post-marriage, Chhavi grappled with the limited variety in home furnishings available in the market. The scarcity of products that blended modern aesthetics with functionality sowed the seeds for a brand that would become one of India’s most promising D2C home décor names.

Leveraging her family’s 37-year legacy in handicrafts and furniture exports, Chhavi, alongside co-founder Shekhar Godiyal, started testing a curated line of home décor on platforms like Amazon. The encouraging response validated their belief that Indian consumers were ready for a brand offering functionality, style, and quality at fair prices. By 2018, Nestroots ventured into the furniture segment-a move that accelerated double-digit growth and positioned the brand as a comprehensive home solutions provider.

Increased Brand Visibility and Growth Across Platforms
By 2023, Nestroots had grown into a brand with over 380 SKUs available on major marketplaces like Amazon, Flipkart, and Myntra, as well as on its own D2C site. Furniture accounted for over half of the brand’s revenue, with an average monthly sales turnover of Rs. 1.1 crore. The company maintained strong margins-gross margins up to 75% and net profits between 16% to 19%. Over 100,000 Indian homes already had Nestroots products, reflecting not just growth in numbers but also genuine customer trust and support.

That same year, Nestroots debuted on Shark Tank India. Chhavi and Shekhar sought Rs. 50 lakh in exchange for 1% equity. While some sharks declined, Namita Thapar recognized the brand’s potential and invested Rs. 50 lakh for a 2% stake, valuing the business at Rs. 25 crore. This deal not only brought in capital but also credibility, mentorship, and public attention. The Shark Tank effect was immediate, boosting brand visibility and accelerating growth across all platforms.

Bringing Grandeur, Functionality, and Cultural Authenticity
In December 2023, Nestroots raised an additional Rs. 3 crore in a pre-seed round led by BeyondSeed Singapore, with participation from prominent D2C investor Arjun Vaidya. The objective was to strengthen the tech stack, expand product lines into kids’ and pet furniture, and enhance reach both domestically and internationally. Plans were also set to enter offline retail through shop-in-shop formats and experience centers, along with targeting global markets like the USA, Canada, and UAE via Amazon Global.

For Chhavi, Nestroots has always been more than just a collection of stylish home products. It is an endeavor to bring grandeur, functionality, and cultural authenticity to Indian homes. She envisions Nestroots as an “everything-home” brand-deeply rooted in Indian craftsmanship while aspiring to meet global design standards. Sustainability, customer-centric innovation, and strong operational fundamentals are the bedrock of this vision. Her guiding mantra-build profitably, scale mindfully, and stay authentic-is simple yet impactful.

From a single online listing to a profitable, fast-growing brand now eyeing international expansion, Nestroots exemplifies thoughtful entrepreneurship. Backed by its founder’s vision and strategic support, the brand is poised to redefine the home experience for Indian consumers-not just through products but by enhancing lifestyles.
