Business Remedies | Rajshree Upadhyaya | July 11,2025 | With a shared vision and a focus on innovation in healthcare, Adarsh Kachappilly, Tapas Pandey, and Varad Patil launched the AyuSynk device in 2017 and carved out their own space in the field. Together, they reimagined auscultation-listening to the internal sounds of the body-making it smarter, more precise, and more accessible for every healthcare provider, regardless of geographic location.

Although traditional stethoscopes developed at IIT Bombay’s BETiC and SINE labs were well-regarded, they had remained largely unchanged for decades. By combining their diverse expertise-Adarsh in business strategy, Tapas in hardware, and Varad in software and analytics-they created a compact device called AyuSynk. This innovation transforms any traditional stethoscope into a digital diagnostic tool.

Innovation Born from Real Need
AyuSynk was created to meet a very real and critical need: how to diagnose heart and lung conditions more accurately-especially in rural or underserved areas where access to specialists is limited. The COVID-19 pandemic heightened this need further. AyuSynk enabled doctors to safely listen to internal body sounds even while wearing PPE, with no physical contact. The device amplifies sounds up to 16 times, filters background noise, and transmits audio via Bluetooth to a mobile app. This allows for live streaming, recording, and slow-motion playback-greatly enhancing diagnostic capabilities.

Over 5,000 Units Sold in India by 2023
By 2023, AyuSynk had sold over 5,000 units across India, most of them to telemedicine companies. With a price point of around Rs. 12,000, the device generated a monthly revenue of Rs. 32 lakh, achieving a gross margin of 55%. For FY 2022-23, their projected revenue was Rs. 7 crore, with an EBITDA margin of 18%.

These impressive figures and the clinical impact caught the attention of Shark Tank India, where the founders pitched their company, offering 1.5% equity in exchange for Rs. 1 crore, valuing AyuSynk at Rs. 66.7 crore. During their pitch on Season 2, they demonstrated the device and its dual modes (heart and lung) highlighted with red and green LEDs. They showcased how it was designed to support remote auscultation in even the most remote regions.

While Vineeta Singh opted out due to lack of domain knowledge, Aman Gupta felt the product needed a lower price to gain mass adoption. Anupam Mittal appreciated the innovation but raised concerns about scalability due to the niche market size.

Now Used in Over 6,000 Clinics and Hospitals
Peyush Bansal offered Rs. 50 lakh for 5% equity and Rs. 50 lakh as a loan at 12% interest, inviting Namita Thapar to co-invest. Leveraging her pharma background, Namita independently offered Rs. 50 lakh for 4% equity and another Rs. 50 lakh as a loan at 10% interest. The founders countered with an offer of 3.5% equity, which Namita accepted-valuing the company at Rs. 14.29 crore. Although the deal was never officially closed post-show, the company has continued to grow independently.

Since then, Ayu Devices has expanded its product line, including wireless versions and three upgraded models-AyuSynk 2Base, 2+, and 2Pro-featuring enhanced audio algorithms and better Bluetooth connectivity. The device is now used in over 6,000 clinics and hospitals, including prestigious institutions like JJ Hospital, KEM Mumbai, and KGMU Lucknow. Complementing the device is the AyuShare app, which provides sound amplification control, phonocardiogram visualization, and secure data sharing.

Empowering Better, Faster Diagnoses
The company’s journey is not just about hardware innovation. It’s about creating a tool that enables doctors to make faster and more accurate diagnoses, especially in areas where advanced diagnostics are otherwise out of reach. Adarsh, Tapas, and Varad have focused on bridging gaps in the healthcare system by combining deep tech innovation with affordability. From a healthcare hackathon to national recognition, their journey proves how a simple yet impactful idea-rooted in real-world challenges-can transform lives. AyuSynk continues to grow, driven by purpose and committed to making healthcare smarter, more inclusive, and future-ready.
