Rajshree Upadhyaya | Business Remedies | In India, Prachi Bhatia started an affordable designer home decor brand, Chokhat, in the year 2018 and created her own identity. She believed that thoughtfully designed home decor should not be a luxury only for a few people. Prachi, who lives in Ghaziabad in the Delhi NCR region, started this brand as a solo entrepreneur because of her love for nature-inspired design and functional design. With little money and without any big team, Prachi built Chokhat from scratch. From creating concepts to coordinating with manufacturers and handling customer queries, she managed everything herself. What started as a small home-based activity gradually became a well-known lifestyle label associated with creativity and dedication. From its early days, Chokhat positioned itself as a brand that offers artistic yet useful products for modern Indian homes.
Its catalogue included kitchen essentials such as trivets, fruit baskets, cutlery stands, tissue holders and condiment sets that combined durability with distinctive beauty. The brand also created tableware and serveware such as mugs, jars, trays and bowls, which could also be used as decor accents. Along with these, Chokhat introduced home decor products such as candle holders, wall hooks, table lamps and hanging lamps, each featuring Prachi’s signature organic shapes and playful designs inspired by birds, animals and natural elements. The focus remained on making everyday spaces feel warm, expressive and personal without charging high prices.
Presented as a growing design-centric home decor brand
Building the brand was not without challenges. In the early phase, Prachi handled most of the work herself. She managed production logistics, vendor negotiations and online marketing simultaneously. Convincing manufacturers to execute her unique designs required patience and determination. Sales were moderate in the first year, but consistent appreciation from customers gave her confidence to refine the collection and strengthen the brand’s digital presence. Over time, Chokhat’s revenue grew to lakhs annually, reflecting the steady demand for affordable design-led decor. A major milestone came when Prachi appeared on Shark Tank India Season 4. On the national platform, she asked for Rs. 50 lakh in exchange for 7 percent equity and presented Chokhat as a growing design-centric home decor brand ready to scale up.
The sharks closely examined her valuation and business structure and raised questions about operational bandwidth and growth strategy. Some investors stepped back, but Anupam Mittal and Peyush Bansal recognized the potential in her unique positioning and offered a combined deal of Rs. 30 lakh for 10 percent equity along with a Rs. 20 lakh loan at 10 percent interest for one year. This agreement provided both financial support and strategic mentorship, becoming a turning point in Chokhat’s growth journey.
Turned a personal creative vision into a nationally recognized brand
Along with the growth of the brand, Chokhat also formalized its corporate structure. The company is registered as Chokhat Home Private Limited, which was incorporated on April 12, 2023. According to the latest available records and its active online storefront, the company is still operational and continues to sell its range of home decor and lifestyle products through digital channels. Its social media presence and product updates reflect continuous engagement with customers and ongoing expansion of collections. Prachi Bhatia’s journey with Chokhat is the story of a design-focused entrepreneur who transformed her personal creative vision into a nationally recognized brand. From sketching her first concept at home to securing investment on a television business platform, she built Chokhat step by step, proving that with thoughtful design and strong determination, it is possible to create space even in a competitive home decor market.
