Nikunj Walia established his identity by launching WrestleFanent, India’s leading wrestling fan engagement brand, in 2019. Professional wrestling has enjoyed a loyal fan following for decades, but for years, fans had limited opportunities to engage with the sport beyond watching matches on television or online.
Rather than starting a wrestling promotion or training academy, Nikunj envisioned a business dedicated entirely to wrestling fans. His goal was to create a platform that would bring fans closer to the sport through unique experiences and a growing community. His mission was to transform wrestling fandom into an interactive ecosystem where fans could connect, participate, and celebrate their shared passion.
From its early days, WrestleFanent positioned itself as a unique entertainment venture focused on fan engagement. The company organizes wrestling fan festivals, live fan engagement events, gaming leagues, celebrity meet-and-greet experiences, exclusive merchandise, community-building initiatives, and branded content solutions for businesses. By combining digital engagement with offline experiences, the startup has created memorable moments for wrestling enthusiasts while opening new opportunities for brands looking to connect with this highly engaged audience. This distinctive approach has helped WrestleFanent carve out a niche in a market where wrestling-focused businesses remain limited.
Sharks Appreciated the Passion and Recognized the Unique Segment
Nikunj’s entrepreneurial journey has been driven by both passion and perseverance. Before making it to Shark Tank India, he faced multiple rejections during the show’s selection process. Instead of giving up, he continued refining his business and eventually earned the opportunity to pitch WrestleFanent on Shark Tank India Season 5.
Confidently presenting his vision of building India’s largest wrestling fan engagement platform, Nikunj sought an investment of Rs. 75 lakh for 10% equity. His presentation reflected years of dedication to a niche industry that he believed held significant untapped potential.
The Sharks appreciated his passion and acknowledged that he had identified a unique segment within the entertainment industry. However, they also expressed concerns about the company’s scalability, revenue potential, and the challenges of building a sustainable business around a specialized fan community. While they admired his determination and commitment, they felt the business required stronger commercial validation before making an investment. As a result, WrestleFanent left the tank without securing a deal.
Although the startup did not receive funding, its appearance on the show introduced the brand to a nationwide audience and significantly increased awareness about its concept.
The Brand Continues to Grow in the Wrestling Fan Engagement Space
The setback did not stop the journey. Following its appearance on Shark Tank India, WrestleFanent has continued expanding its presence in the wrestling fan engagement space. The company remains active through events, digital initiatives, merchandise, and collaborations with entertainment brands while exploring new opportunities within India’s rapidly growing sports and entertainment ecosystem. Its continued growth reflects the founder’s commitment to strengthening the brand despite not securing investment from the Sharks.
Nikunj Walia’s journey demonstrates that entrepreneurship is often about identifying opportunities that others overlook. Instead of competing in a crowded market, he focused on serving an underserved community and built WrestleFanent into a brand dedicated to enhancing the experience of wrestling fans across India. While Shark Tank India did not result in funding, the platform provided invaluable visibility, enabling the startup to continue pursuing its vision with greater momentum. WrestleFanent’s story illustrates how determination, consistent effort, and a deep understanding of a passionate audience can help a niche business continue to grow and establish a lasting place in India’s entertainment industry.
