Jaipur | Rajshree Upadhyaya | Kunal Goel, Usha Shrotriya, and Yash Parashar established their place in India’s growing healthy food sector by launching Mama Nourish, a modern healthy snacking brand inspired by traditional Indian household nutrition. At a time when Indian consumers were becoming increasingly conscious about clean eating and traditional nutrition, the founders identified a gap between modern convenience foods and homemade nourishment. The Mumbai-based startup was officially launched in 2023 by Kunal Goel, Usha Shrotriya, and Yash Parashar. However, the foundation of the idea had been taking shape much earlier through Usha Shrotriya’s knowledge of traditional recipes and healthy Indian nutrition. The founders wanted to create products that retained the taste and nutritional value of homemade snacks while fitting seamlessly into fast-paced urban lifestyles.

Instead of following Western health-food trends, Mama Nourish built its identity around recipes inspired by mothers and grandmothers, transforming familiar ingredients into modern packaged snacks. This approach helped the company stand out in the rapidly expanding healthy food market, where many brands relied heavily on imported concepts and artificial health positioning. The emotional connection associated with traditional Indian recipes became one of the strongest pillars of the business.
The company entered the market with LadduBars, nutrition-based snack bars and other healthy snack products made from ingredients such as millet, dates, dry fruits, edible gum (gond), fenugreek, kamarkas, and seeds. Mama Nourish promoted its products as preservative-free, gluten-free, and free from refined sugar and artificial chemicals. Its flagship LadduBar quickly became the face of the brand by combining the familiarity of traditional Indian laddoos with the convenience of a portable snack bar, making it appealing to modern consumers, working professionals, and fitness-focused buyers.

Gained National Recognition After Appearing on Shark Tank India Season 5
One of the most unique aspects of Mama Nourish was the way the founders sourced ideas and built the brand story. The company encouraged grandmothers from different regions of India to share local recipes and food traditions. These recipes inspired product development, enabling the startup to create snacks rooted in Indian culture while still appealing to younger consumers.

This strategy gave the company a distinctive identity in the highly competitive D2C food segment and helped build a strong emotional connection with customers.
In 2026, the startup gained national recognition after appearing on Shark Tank India Season 5. During the pitch, the founders sought Rs. 60 lakh in exchange for 1.5 percent equity, valuing the company at Rs. 40 crore. While the sharks appreciated the concept and emotional storytelling behind the brand, several investors expressed concerns regarding the valuation, packaging quality, financial losses, and overall execution strategy. At the time of the pitch, the company was still operating at a loss and was primarily focused on scaling the business and increasing its market presence.

Focused on Strengthening Distribution and Improving Packaging
Despite the criticism, Aman Gupta saw long-term potential in both the founders and the brand positioning. He ultimately offered Rs. 2 crore for 20 percent equity. Although the deal significantly reduced the company’s valuation, it provided the startup with much-needed funding and national visibility. The investment also strengthened Mama Nourish’s credibility within the healthy snacking industry, particularly among consumers looking for Indian alternatives to highly processed packaged foods.

As of 2026, Mama Nourish appears to be actively operating in the Indian healthy snacking market. The company continues to sell its products through digital platforms, e-commerce marketplaces, quick-commerce channels, and other modern retail formats. The founders have also outlined plans to strengthen distribution networks, improve packaging, and expand the product portfolio while continuing to promote traditional Indian nutrition in convenient modern formats.
