Business Remedies | Shruti Kothari | July 25,2025 | The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has concluded a high-level business mission to Japan, held from July 22 to 25, 2025, alongside World Expo 2025 in Osaka. The visit focused on strengthening India-Japan collaboration in key sectors such as electric mobility, artificial intelligence, digital governance and industrial design.As part of the mission, the FICCI delegation held a series of strategic meetings with leading Japanese organizations, aiming to foster public-private partnerships and enhance technological cooperation between the two nations.
Sustainable Mobility Dialogue with Suzuki Motor Corporation
The delegation met Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, Executive Vice President of Suzuki Motor Corporation. Discussions centered on expanding collaboration in sustainable mobility, particularly electric vehicles, telematics, and AI-driven automotive technologies. The talks also explored avenues to address energy security and increase employability through joint development in the automobile and artificial intelligence sectors.
Engagement with NEC Corporation on Digital Governance
The FICCI team also engaged with Mr. Tounai Yuuki, Director, Global Public Policy Relations, NEC Corporation. The discussion highlighted NEC’s growing presence in India and its role in supporting digital transformation initiatives. With NEC showcasing its face-recognition systems for admission and payment at Expo 2025, both sides explored future opportunities in digital governance, biometric identity systems, and e-governance infrastructure. The conversation emphasized the potential of the India-Japan digital corridor as a platform for innovation and inclusive growth.
Collaboration with Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP)
In a focused meeting with Mr Hiroyuki Fukano, President and COO of JDP, along with Ms Makiko Tsumura and Ms Akiko Watanabe, the delegation discussed design integration in India’s industrial growth. The conversation included themes of design thinking, product innovation, and user-centric development. Both sides acknowledged strong alignment between India’s evolving design ecosystem and Japan’s long-standing design excellence.
Cross-Sector Delegation and Strategic Vision
The FICCI business delegation included over 20 senior leaders from sectors such as automotive, semiconductors, digital technology, clean energy, and healthcare. The mission sought to deepen cooperation through research and development, joint ventures, policy dialogue, and knowledge sharing.
FICCI officials stated that the mission is expected to result in meaningful outcomes, including pilot projects, public-private innovation platforms, and new partnerships in electric mobility and AI applications. The engagements also support India’s broader strategic objectives under the India-Japan Business Cooperation Committee (IJBCC) framework.
