Rajshree Upadhyaya |  Business Remedies | Swati Singh established her identity by launching Aseem Shakti Saree, offering designer, innovative ready-to-wear pocket sarees that eliminate the complexities of traditional draping. What began as a common observation about the difficulty of wearing sarees gradually evolved into a purpose-driven entrepreneurial journey for her. She founded Aseem Shakti in Mumbai in 2018.

The idea emerged from a blend of personal observation and social intent. Swati aimed not only to make sarees more accessible for modern women but also to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for women from underprivileged communities. This dual vision laid the foundation of a brand that would go on to combine functionality with empowerment in a deeply traditional category.

Aseem Shakti is best known for its innovative ready-to-wear pocket sarees, designed to eliminate the challenges of traditional draping. These sarees come pre-stitched, do not require a petticoat, and can be worn in just a few seconds-making them highly appealing for women balancing busy professional and personal lives. The addition of functional pockets introduces a modern and practical twist to ethnic wear, something rarely seen in traditional saree designs. This unique blend of ease and utility quickly gained popularity among younger audiences while retaining the elegance of traditional attire.

As the brand expanded, it moved beyond its hero product to include a diverse range of handcrafted sarees such as Kota Doria, mul cotton, linen hand block printed sarees, Jaipuri Chanderi silk sarees, and Shibori tie-and-dye sarees. It also introduced custom saree conversion services, allowing customers to transform their existing sarees into ready-to-wear formats. This thoughtful product expansion helped the brand cater both to new buyers and those emotionally attached to their traditional wardrobes.

Creating Livelihood Opportunities for Dozens of Women
Aseem Shakti’s impact goes far beyond fashion. Swati Singh built the company with a strong focus on social empowerment, providing employment and training to women from marginalized backgrounds and self-help groups. The brand has created livelihood opportunities for dozens of women, helping them achieve financial independence and stability. This blend of product innovation and purpose has been a key factor in shaping the brand’s identity and consumer appeal.

A major turning point in the brand’s journey came in 2021, when a video demonstrating the quick draping saree went viral, significantly boosting its visibility and sales. This momentum translated into steady financial growth, with revenue rising from approximately Rs. 22 lakh in FY 2022-23 to around Rs. 65 lakh in FY 2023-24, and reaching close to Rs. 1.3 crore in 2024. A significant portion of this revenue has come from its direct-to-consumer website, supported by its growing digital presence.

Committed to the Mission of Women Empowerment
The brand gained nationwide recognition after appearing on Shark Tank India Season 4, where Swati Singh pitched Rs. 50 lakh for 2.5% equity, valuing the company at Rs. 20 crore. While some investors expressed concerns about valuation and scalability, the uniqueness of the product and its social impact stood out. Ultimately, Anupam Mittal offered Rs. 50 lakh for 10% equity, which Swati accepted. This marked a crucial milestone, bringing both capital and mentorship into the business.

According to the latest updates, Aseem Shakti continues to operate and grow, with active online sales and an expanding customer base across India. The brand has sold thousands of sarees and continues to innovate in this space, staying committed to its mission of simplifying traditional attire and empowering women at the grassroots level.

Swati Singh’s journey with Aseem Shakti demonstrates how addressing a simple, everyday problem with creativity and purpose can transform it into a meaningful and successful business-seamlessly blending tradition with modernity.
