Rajshree Upadhyaya | Business Remedies | India’s gluten-free dessert brand Paleoo Bakes was founded in 2019 by Simran and Tina Bapu, who carved a niche for themselves at a time when the healthy dessert trend had barely begun in Indian metros. Long before “guilt-free” sweets became mainstream, Simran Bapu had quietly started rethinking the way desserts were made and consumed.

A qualified nutritionist, Simran had worked closely with clients managing diabetes and lifestyle disorders. During her practice, she repeatedly encountered a common problem-people were often forced to choose between health and indulgence. Determined to bridge this gap, she teamed up with her mother, Tina Bapu, an enthusiastic home baker. Together, they laid the foundation of Paleoo Bakes in Mumbai.

What began as recipe trials in a home kitchen soon transformed into a focused mission: creating desserts that celebrate both nutrition and joy. From the outset, Paleoo Bakes clearly differentiated itself from conventional bakeries. Instead of refined flour and processed sugar, the brand used almond flour, natural sweeteners, and carefully selected ingredients suited to low-carb and gluten-free lifestyles.

Their expanding menu included gluten-free cakes, sugar-free cheesecakes, protein bars, and healthy brownies-each designed to deliver familiar flavors without the heaviness of traditional desserts. The emphasis was not merely on removing unhealthy ingredients, but on rebuilding recipes from scratch so that texture, taste, and satisfaction were never compromised.

As word spread through social media and customer referrals, demand grew steadily. Paleoo Bakes transitioned from a home setup to a cloud kitchen model in Versova, Andheri West, Mumbai, enabling the founders to scale production while maintaining strict quality control. The brand cultivated a loyal customer base comprising fitness enthusiasts, people with diabetes, and health-conscious families who appreciated the convenience of ordering dairy-free, low-carb desserts without feeling they were settling for a second-best option. Repeat orders became strong validation that the concept resonated well beyond novelty.

Recognition Across Quick Commerce and Retail Channels
The brand’s biggest national moment came in 2025, when Paleoo Bakes appeared on Shark Tank India Season 4. Simran and Tina pitched for Rs. 1 crore in exchange for 6.5% equity, valuing the company at Rs. 15.38 crore. Their presentation combined personal conviction with clear financial ambition, highlighting strong margins and a rapidly growing health-focused consumer segment.

The sharks engaged actively, questioning scalability, market size, and long-term differentiation in the highly competitive food industry. After discussions, the founders closed a deal for Rs. 1 crore in exchange for 9% equity, along with a 1% royalty until the initial investment was recovered. Investors Anupam Mittal and Vineeta Singh came on board, bringing not just capital but also strategic expertise in brand building and distribution.

This agreement served as a major validation of the company’s model and opened doors to wider visibility and potential expansion across quick commerce and retail channels.

A Strong Presence in the Healthy Dessert Space
Today, Paleoo Bakes operates actively from Mumbai, fulfilling online orders and maintaining a strong presence in the healthy dessert segment. The company continues to focus on expanding its reach while staying true to its clean-ingredient philosophy.
What began in 2019 as a response to a personal observation has grown into a brand that reflects a broader cultural shift towards mindful indulgence. Through perseverance, product innovation, and a solid nutritional foundation, Simran and Tina Bapu have created a space where sweetness and wellness coexist-without compromise.
