Rajshree Upadhyaya |Business Remedies | In the heart of Kashmir, where cricket is woven into everyday life, two brothers, Saad Tramboo and Hamaad Tramboo, nurtured a vision to make quality cricket equipment accessible to aspiring players. Although TRAMBOO SPORTS PRIVATE LIMITED was officially incorporated on 28 May 2019 in Sonwar, Srinagar, the founders began actively shaping the brand around 2021, driven by their own experience as players and their passion for the game. Their goal was to bridge the gap between expensive cricket gear and the needs of young cricketers in India.
The brothers quickly realized that while English willow bats dominated professional cricket, their high cost made them inaccessible to many. Meanwhile, Kashmir willow, abundant locally, offered unique strength and resilience but was often overlooked. Saad and Hamaad decided to leverage this resource to create affordable cricket bats without compromising quality. Using innovative seasoning techniques, they accelerated the aging process of the willow, maintaining durability while enabling faster production cycles.
Tramboo Sports’ product line includes premium Kashmir willow cricket bats, tennis ball bats, and season ball bats, all designed with Singapore cane handles for improved balance and shock absorption. By focusing on performance, affordability, and tailored options for different playing styles, the brothers quickly gained traction among amateur players. Leveraging social media and direct online sales, they reportedly sold over 20,000 bats in the initial years, even attracting orders from international markets.
Their breakthrough came in early 2024 when they appeared on Shark Tank India Season 3. On the show, they requested Rs. 30 lakh for a 3 percent equity stake, emphasizing both the quality of their Kashmir willow bats and the mission to democratize cricket gear. The founders’ confidence and traction impressed the Sharks, leading to a deal with Aman Gupta, co-founder and CMO of boAt, and Peyush Bansal, co-founder and CEO of Lenskart, who jointly invested Rs. 30 lakh for a 4 percent stake. This investment not only provided capital but also mentorship to scale operations.
The Shark Tank appearance brought nationwide attention, but it also sparked controversy. Local bat makers, organized under the Cricket Bat Manufacturers Association of Kashmir, challenged claims regarding Tramboo Sports’ uniqueness in manufacturing. While disputes centered on sourcing versus in-house crafting, the company continued operations, maintaining a presence in the market and actively selling its cricket equipment.
Today, Tramboo Sports remains operational and continues to market its products through online channels and retail expansion. The brand’s journey reflects the ambition and ingenuity of young founders who combined local resources with modern entrepreneurial strategy. From modest beginnings in Srinagar to securing national investment and recognition, Saad and Hamaad Tramboo’s story illustrates the challenges and triumphs of building a sports brand in a traditional yet evolving industry.
With a focus on accessibility, quality, and innovation, Tramboo Sports continues to grow, striving to make premium cricket equipment available to players across India and beyond, while navigating the delicate balance between startup culture and Kashmir’s rich heritage of craftsmanship.
