Shruti Kothari | Jaipur | Business Remedies. On World Press Freedom Day 2025, we spotlight a timely theme – “Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media.”  AI is already changing how news is gathered, written, and shared. From auto-generated reports to algorithm-driven feeds, it’s speeding things up – but also raising red flags.

Who controls the narrative? Can machines be fair?
The biggest concern is ethics. Without strong guidelines, AI can erode trust, promote bias, and deepen echo chambers. In India, where media reflects a rich mix of voices, careless use of AI could silence the very diversity we celebrate. This day is a call to act wisely. Let’s use AI to strengthen journalism, not dilute it. Transparency, accountability, and digital literacy must guide the way forward.
Technology should serve the truth – not replace it. Now, here’s what some of our city’s bloggers and journalists have to say

“I view artificial intelligence as both a powerful enabler and a complex disruptor in the media landscape. On one hand, AI tools have streamlined research, enhanced content discovery, and opened up exciting possibilities for personalization and accessibility. They allow us to dig deeper and work faster. But this convenience comes with caveats. The rise of generative AI has blurred the lines between human-authored content and algorithmically produced narratives. To me, press freedom in the age of AI isn’t just about censorship or surveillance-it’s about preserving the integrity of human storytelling. It’s about ensuring that media continues to reflect real voices, lived experiences, and moral responsibility. AI can be a co-pilot, but it shouldn’t be the narrator. The need of the hour is to harness these tools without losing the human essence that makes journalism and storytelling powerful in the first place.”

“As a journalist, I see AI as both ally and adversary. It accelerates news, yet quietly erodes truth. Algorithms, deepfakes, and invisible censorship risk turning free press into programmed echo chambers. Without fierce human integrity, journalism may lose its soul.”

“In my experience as a content creator, AI has been a powerful tool-helping streamline planning, improve engagement, and speed up design and copy processes. But with that ease comes a responsibility. I’ve seen how quickly AI-generated content can blur the line between fact and fiction. That’s why I believe it’s crucial to use AI mindfully-while staying true to ethical storytelling and ensuring every piece of content remains authentic and trustworthy.”
