Business Remedies | Rajshree Upadhyaya | May 15,2025 | In the vibrant lanes of Ahmedabad, where modern infrastructure meets old-world charm, a young automotive engineering student named Rutvij Dasadia found himself walking long distances within large campuses and business parks. What felt like a minor inconvenience at first quickly evolved into a larger realisation, India’s closed, gated spaces lacked a simple, efficient, and eco-friendly commuting solution. Determined to solve this gap in last-mile mobility, Rutvij and co-founder Ketan Dasadia laid the foundation of Booz Mobility in 2017, then called Hello Skate Mobility LLP. What started as a college project slowly transformed into a promising startup with a clear vision: to revolutionize intra-campus transportation.
During his time at Gujarat Technological University, Rutvij began experimenting with electric scooters to offer a smart micro-mobility solution tailored for semi-private environments. The idea was simple but powerful: provide electric scooters that could be accessed through a mobile app for short rides within campuses, residential societies, and corporate zones. The app enabled users to locate, unlock, ride, and pay seamlessly, turning mundane commutes into hassle-free experiences. The scooters, parked at charging and docking stations, addressed both environmental concerns and user convenience.
The business model was structured under Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), with flexible subscription and pay-per-use plans. The startup took a step further by offering rider insurance, helmets, and a streamlined onboarding process. Booz Mobility’s core mission was to address the crucial first and last-mile connectivity, helping users travel the final stretch between public transport hubs and their actual destinations. With the motto “Urban Mobility that cares for you, your environment, and your pockets,” the brand set its sights on making green travel accessible across India.
The startup’s potential didn’t go unnoticed. It was incubated at Gujarat University’s Startup and Entrepreneurship Council and listed among IIM Calcutta’s Smart 50 startups. Its recognition extended to international platforms, earning a spot among the top 100 startups at Startup Turkey. But the real turning point came in December 2021, when Rutvij walked onto the Shark Tank India stage with a pitch that combined vision, technology, and ambition. Seeking Rs. 40 lakhs for 15% equity, Rutvij faced skepticism from some sharks over modest revenues. Yet, Ashneer Grover and Vineeta Singh saw a long-term opportunity and offered the same amount for 50% equity, a deal Rutvij accepted, gaining not just funding but invaluable mentorship and nationwide exposure.
The appearance on Shark Tank India gave Booz Mobility a wave of visibility. Curious users, potential partners, and investors started paying attention. The company scaled operations in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, refined its service, and expanded its fleet. By March 2024, Booz reported an annual revenue of Rs. 52.7 lakhs, a significant leap from the early days. A strategic partnership with EMotorad, an EV brand backed by MS Dhoni, further accelerated growth. EMotorad became Booz’s exclusive OEM partner, supplying ‘Lil E’ kick scooters, and the two brands targeted the deployment of over 500 scooters by FY25, a first-of-its-kind OEM-micro mobility collaboration in India.
Like most young ventures, Booz Mobility wasn’t immune to setbacks. The COVID-19 pandemic brought operations to a halt, not once but twice. But instead of giving up, the team used the downtime to rebuild its systems, improve its tech backbone, and explore newer applications of its services. That period of introspection and innovation helped Booz emerge stronger, with a more defined strategy for expansion.
Now, with an ambitious goal to serve 850 million square feet of gated premises by 2025, Booz Mobility is eyeing campuses, tech parks, and urban societies across India. What started as a student’s frustration with walking long distances has now evolved into a full-fledged mobility solution with the power to redefine urban commuting. And as India moves towards a greener, smarter future, Booz Mobility is quietly paving the way, one short ride at a time.
