Building a nutrition startup through clean, plant-based formulations

Rajshree Upadhyaya | Business Remedies | By introducing clean, plant-based formulations, sisters Veda Gogineni and Sai Sudha Gogineni launched the nutrition startup Earthful in 2020 and carved a distinct space for themselves. The idea took shape when the founders began questioning the supplements they were personally consuming. This led them to uncover a widespread issue that many Indians were silently facing-nutrition products that promised health benefits but relied heavily on synthetic ingredients, fillers, and vague claims.

Alumni of IIT Kharagpur, the sisters combined their scientific knowledge with personal experience to launch Earthful from Hyderabad, with the goal of creating a brand rooted entirely in nature and transparency. From the outset, Earthful positioned itself not as a trend-driven wellness startup, but as a science-backed, purpose-led company.

The early years were focused on building credibility in a crowded market. Instead of scaling rapidly, the founders concentrated on developing plant-based multivitamins that addressed daily nutritional gaps without chemicals, preservatives, or artificial additives. Earthful gradually gained attention for its commitment to ingredient integrity, particularly after introducing one of India’s first 100 percent natural multivitamins for menopausal women-an area often overlooked in mainstream nutrition.

This focus on underserved health needs became central to the brand’s identity and helped build a loyal customer base that valued honesty over hype. As demand grew, Earthful expanded its portfolio to include plant-based protein powders, targeted nutrition supplements for skin, hair, sleep, and hormonal health, as well as a thoughtfully designed children’s nutrition milk mix made with millets, plant protein, calcium, and vitamin D. Every product reflected the same philosophy-simple labels, real ingredients, and solutions designed for daily use rather than short-term fixes. By staying committed to preventive nutrition, Earthful steadily earned the trust of health-conscious consumers seeking natural alternatives.

Leveraging Visibility and Investor Confidence
A major turning point came in 2025 when the founders appeared on Shark Tank India Season 4. Their pitch highlighted not just product traction, but also a long-term vision to reshape how Indians think about nutrition. Seeking Rs. 75 lakh in exchange for equity, the sisters impressed the panel with their clarity and conviction. OYO Founder Ritesh Agarwal invested Rs. 75 lakh for a larger equity stake, bringing both capital and strategic mentorship.

The deal paved the way for Earthful’s transition from a growing direct-to-consumer brand to a nationally recognised name. Post the show, the company capitalised on increased visibility and investor confidence to accelerate growth. Earthful raised an additional Rs. 5 crore in funding with Ritesh Agarwal and entrepreneur Srinivasan Namala, deploying the capital towards research, brand building, and leadership expansion. By this stage, the company had crossed an annual revenue run rate of nearly Rs. 15 crore and served over one lakh customers, supported by strong repeat purchase behaviour that reinforced product credibility.

Continuing Growth With a Focus on Daily Nutrition
Later in 2025, Earthful raised Rs. 26 crore in a pre-Series A round led by Fireside Ventures and V3 Ventures, with participation from other investors. The funding was aimed at expanding the brand’s women’s health portfolio, strengthening teams in Hyderabad and Mumbai, and scaling distribution.

Today, Earthful operates at full scale, selling its daily multivitamins, plant protein blends, and condition-specific nutrition products through its website, leading e-commerce platforms, and quick-commerce channels across India. From a startup born out of personal concern to a well-funded nutrition brand with nationwide reach, Earthful’s journey reflects disciplined, purpose-led growth. By staying loyal to clean ingredients and evidence-based nutrition, Veda and Sai Sudha Gogineni have built a company that continues to challenge how wellness is defined in India’s supplement market.
