Business Remedies / Addis Ababa (IANS) |Prime Minister Narendra Modi ने बुधवार को अपने Ethiopian counterpart Dr. Abiy Ahmed के साथ चर्चा के दौरान digital public infrastructure, mining, critical minerals और clean energy के साथ-साथ food security और agriculture के क्षेत्रों में सहयोग बढ़ाने की भारत की इच्छा व्यक्त की।
दोनों नेताओं ने trade and investment, innovation and technology, education और capacity building के क्षेत्रों में हुई प्रगति की भी समीक्षा की। Prime Minister Modi ने कहा कि trusted partner के रूप में Indian companies ने Ethiopian economy में 5 billion US dollars से अधिक का निवेश किया है, विशेष रूप से manufacturing और pharmaceuticals जैसे आवश्यक क्षेत्रों में, जिससे 75,000 से अधिक local jobs सृजित हुए हैं।
केवल वर्ष 2024 में ही 11 Indian companies ने agriculture, automobile, iron and steel, information and communication technology सहित विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में Ethiopia में निवेश किया है। foreign direct investment के मामले में textile sector में Indian investment अग्रणी रहा है। pharma sector में भी भारत को major investors में गिना जाता है।
FY 2024-25 में India–Ethiopia total trade 550.19 million US dollars रहा। इसमें Indian exports 476.81 million US dollars और imports 73.38 million US dollars रहा, जिससे यह संबंध मुख्य रूप से export-driven बना हुआ है। Ethiopia को Duty-Free Tariff Preference scheme for Least Developed Countries के तहत beneficiary status प्राप्त है। दोनों देश bilateral trade और technical cooperation को और मजबूत करने के इच्छुक हैं।
दोनों देशों ने eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) पर भी हस्ताक्षर किए, जिनमें संबंधों को strategic partnership तक उन्नत करना, customs cooperation, data centre की स्थापना Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs में, United Nations peacekeeping mission training cooperation, debt restructuring under G20, अधिक Indian Council for Cultural Relations scholarships, तथा Ethiopian citizens के लिए short-term artificial intelligence courses शामिल हैं।
दोनों प्रधानमंत्रियों ने Global South की चिंताओं को संयुक्त रूप से उठाने के लिए मिलकर काम करने की commitment दोहराई। उन्होंने United Nations सहित multilateral forums पर सहयोग पर भी चर्चा की। उन्होंने climate change, renewable energy और disaster risk reduction जैसे मुद्दों पर अधिक सहयोग का आह्वान किया और इस संदर्भ में international organisations जैसे International Big Cat Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance और International Solar Alliance की भूमिका का स्वागत किया।
Prime Minister Modi ने कहा कि भारत BRICS partner के रूप में अपनी chairmanship के दौरान तथा प्रस्तावित India–Africa Forum Summit के लिए Ethiopia के साथ मिलकर काम करने को लेकर उत्सुक है।
