सरकार ने सोमवार को कहा कि उसका लक्ष्य है कि oilseed production 69.7 million tonnes तक बढ़ाई जाए by 2030-31, जिससे देश edible oil production में Atmanirbharta (self-sufficiency) हासिल कर सके।
🌐 India’s Global Standing
August 2024 की NITI Aayog report के मुताबिक India globally rice bran oil, castor seed, safflower, sesame और niger production में top position पर है।
हालांकि, edible oils के मामले में देश अभी भी imports पर काफी निर्भर है और केवल 44% domestic demand internal production से पूरा कर पाता है।
📉 Import Dependence | कमी लेकिन चुनौती बनी हुई
Edible oil import dependence 2015-16 में 63.2% थी, जो 2023-24 में घटकर 56.25% हो गई है। लेकिन बढ़ती consumption के कारण पूरी चुनौती बनी हुई है।
🚀 National Mission on Edible Oils (NMEO)
इस dependency को कम करने और Atmanirbharta हासिल करने के लिए सरकार ने NMEO लॉन्च किया।

NMEO-Oil Palm (2021): oil palm cultivation expand करना और domestic crude palm oil output बढ़ाना।

NMEO-Oilseeds (2024): productivity, seed quality, processing और market linkages traditional oilseed crops के लिए improve करना।
📈 Production Targets
Government के statement के मुताबिक, NMEO-OS का लक्ष्य oilseed production को 39 → 69.7 million tonnes by 2030-31 बढ़ाना है, cluster-based interventions और improved seed systems के माध्यम से।
NMEO-OP के तहत 2025-26 तक 6.5 lakh hectares oil palm cultivation में लाने और 2029-30 तक crude palm oil production 28 lakh tonnes तक बढ़ाने का target रखा गया है।
💡 Strategy & Farmer Empowerment
Mission focused interventions, yield improvement, assured pricing, advanced seed technologies और coordinated institutional implementation के जरिए एक resilient domestic edible oil value chain तैयार करना चाहता है।
NMEO rural economies को भी strengthen करेगा, किसानों को better income opportunities, quality inputs और market linkages प्रदान कर।
