Entrepreneurship is rarely a straight path, and few stories illustrate that better than Gajendra Singh, IIT Roorkee alumnus and Founder of Brain Recoding. Coming from a financially constrained background, Singh’s journey has been defined by resilience, experimentation and an unwavering belief in using technology to solve real educational challenges. From launching ventures as a student at IIT Roorkee to creating one of India’s emerging AI-powered education platforms, he has experienced both remarkable successes and difficult setbacks.

Today, through Brain Recoding, Singh aims to redefine the way students learn by combining neuroscience, cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence. In this conversation, he speaks about his entrepreneurial journey, the inspiration behind Brain Recoding, the company’s innovative products, its recent collaboration with the Tripura Government, the role of AI in education, and his vision for creating a future where technology enhances learning outcomes while preparing students for tomorrow’s careers.

Question: You are the founder of Brain Recoding. How has your entrepreneurial journey been so far?

Answer: My journey has been full of learning, challenges and continuous experimentation. I had the privilege of securing admission to one of India’s premier engineering institutions, IIT Roorkee. Coming from a financially challenged family, reaching IIT itself was a significant achievement. I was the top-ranked student in my batch and secured (Cat.) All India Rank 141.

While studying there, I realised that thousands of talented students from economically weaker backgrounds struggled to access quality preparation material for engineering entrance examinations. With this thought, I brought together nearly 110 IIT students and started an initiative to create comprehensive study material for engineering aspirants. We prepared branch-wise educational content and made it available at an affordable price of just Rs. 500 so that deserving students could benefit from it. Although the initiative received appreciation, our lack of technical and business experience forced us to shut it down after about one and a half years.

However, my entrepreneurial spirit remained intact. Along with one of my teachers, I co-founded the Indian Business Organisation of Cards, a private limited company that partnered with brands to offer discount cards. The concept helped businesses increase customer engagement and sales, but the venture eventually faced operational challenges because several large brands did not receive approval from their corporate headquarters to continue the partnerships.

At that point, I faced a difficult decision, whether to continue my studies or dedicate myself entirely to entrepreneurship. I chose the latter and left IIT to pursue my vision. My next venture, Project Triaas, focused on digital discount card distribution. The response was overwhelming. Within hours of its launch on the Play Store, it became one of the most downloaded applications in its category, and the server traffic was so high that it exceeded the available infrastructure. Despite the strong initial response, the business could not sustain itself and had to be discontinued.

Later, I joined Edukit in Rajasthan, where I was offered a small equity stake. During my time there, I focused on refining the educational product rather than aggressively pursuing sales. I strongly believed that technology alone cannot create impact unless it delivers meaningful value to users. Since my vision differed from the company’s direction, I decided to move on.

I subsequently worked with School Shiksha Pariwaar, where I interacted with over 2,000 schools. Those experiences helped me understand the actual challenges faced by students, parents and educators. It eventually became clear that I wanted to build a platform that combined technology with neuroscience, psychology and practical learning outcomes. That vision ultimately led to the establishment of Brain Recoding.

Question: What is Brain Recoding, and what solutions does the company offer?

Answer: Brain Recoding is an education technology platform that focuses on improving the way students learn by understanding how the human brain functions. Before developing any product, we worked extensively with India’s renowned cognitive psychologist Dr. Nagpal Singh to understand learning patterns, memory, concentration and cognitive development.

Parents often worry about their children’s inability to concentrate, stay focused or retain information. These concerns are reflected in education statistics as well. A significant number of students discontinue their education before completing higher studies. We believe that mindset and cognitive abilities play a crucial role in academic success.

Based on years of research, we developed several technology-driven learning solutions. One of our flagship offerings is Mind Zym, which is designed around the concept of mid-brain activation. In our internal evaluations, we observed encouraging results, with a large proportion of participants demonstrating notable improvements in specific cognitive exercises.

Another important product is Neurohabits, which has been developed after analysing thousands of international research papers related to learning behaviour. It focuses on improving concentration, reducing distractions and helping students develop productive learning habits.

We have also introduced the Rapid Recall System, which enables students to memorise academic content through visualisation, storytelling and structured memory techniques instead of rote learning. I personally worked on designing innovative memory frameworks for individual chapters before gradually integrating AI into the process. Our objective is to make learning engaging, efficient and scientifically structured.

Question: Brain Recoding recently signed an MoU with the Tripura Government. What does this partnership involve?

Answer: The collaboration with the Tripura Government is centred on developing a new model of higher education that prepares students for future technology-driven careers. One of the major focus areas is creating opportunities in the field of AI Business Automation, where students can build expertise in using artificial intelligence to solve real-world business challenges.

The programme has been designed in multiple phases and aims to encourage students to become creators, innovators and entrepreneurs rather than simply preparing for conventional employment. We believe that future economies will reward individuals who create intellectual value, and education must evolve accordingly.

Question: How do you assess the current trends in India’s education sector?

Answer: One of the biggest gaps in our education system is that while students are taught skills, they are rarely taught how to convert those skills into meaningful opportunities or sustainable careers. Skill development and monetisation are two entirely different aspects, and both deserve equal attention.

Mindset development is equally important. Technical knowledge alone cannot ensure success if students lack confidence, discipline, adaptability and entrepreneurial thinking.

Regarding the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, I believe it presents an excellent vision for transforming education. It addresses many relevant aspects of modern learning. However, successful implementation requires stronger institutional frameworks, practical execution strategies and continuous monitoring to ensure that the intended outcomes are achieved effectively.

Question: How can AI models be trained effectively for educational purposes?

Answer: The key lies in strong conceptualisation. AI should not merely generate information but should be trained to deliver educational value. At Brain Recoding, we are working on an initiative called Shiksha with AI, where artificial intelligence assists in developing structured learning content.

For example, instead of manually designing memory techniques for every chapter, AI can now generate creative recall methods based on predefined educational frameworks. This allows us to scale quality educational content much faster while maintaining consistency. AI should complement educators and enhance learning rather than replace the human element.

Question: How important are collaborations with governments and other stakeholders in driving educational technology?

Answer: Collaborations play an extremely important role because they allow innovative educational models to reach larger sections of society. Our partnership with the Tripura Government is one example of how such initiatives can benefit students at the state level.

We are also exploring similar collaborations with other state governments, including Madhya Pradesh. Such partnerships make it possible to implement technology-driven educational programmes across diverse regions and ensure that students from different socio-economic backgrounds receive access to quality learning resources.

Question: What are your concerns regarding the adoption of artificial intelligence?

Answer: The biggest challenge is awareness. Although AI has become a widely discussed topic, many people still do not fully understand its practical applications or long-term importance.

I believe personalised learning powered by artificial intelligence will become a mainstream reality over the coming years. However, students, teachers and professionals need proper training to use these technologies effectively. Prompt engineering, for example, is emerging as an essential skill. Recognising this need, we have introduced a dedicated module called Artificial Intelligence Genius Foundation, which focuses on teaching users how to interact with AI systems efficiently.

Question: Do you believe AI-based educational products are becoming more affordable?

Answer: Absolutely. Technology is becoming increasingly accessible, making quality education more affordable than ever before. Our objective has always been to ensure that advanced learning tools remain within the reach of ordinary students. For instance, we offer certain learning programmes through our mobile application with lifetime access at affordable pricing, at just Rs. 6000.

Question: Finally, what message would you like to give young people who aspire to build careers in technology and entrepreneurship?

Answer: The first requirement is to have absolute clarity about your vision. Before beginning any journey, you should know what you want to achieve and why you want to achieve it. Once your purpose is clear, every decision becomes more focused.

Equally important is developing the right mindset. Success is rarely immediate, and setbacks are part of every entrepreneurial journey. Persistence, discipline and continuous learning are essential qualities for anyone entering the technology sector.

I would also encourage young entrepreneurs to surround themselves with people who inspire them and challenge them to grow. The company you keep significantly influences your thinking and ambitions. These may sound like simple principles, but when practised consistently, they become the foundation of long-term success.
